Some collaborations extend far beyond a project. Such was the case with Tracey Reinberg, whose influence played a defining role in the early years of Ateliers Zelij. Our collaboration began with the production of Tracey’s first cement tile collection, translating her graphic language into a material system suited to architectural applications. The design featured in the cover image originates from this period.
As a pioneering figure in surface design, Tracey Reinberg introduced us to new ways of thinking about pattern, composition, and repetition. Through her generosity and guidance, she provided many of the conceptual tools that helped Samir Mazer develop later his first zellige collections and envision the material as a contemporary medium of expression. More than just a collaboration, this meeting marked a turning point in the evolution of Ateliers Zelij. It reinforced a conviction that continues to guide our work today: that traditional craftsmanship can become a platform for innovation when approached through the lens of design. This legacy continues to inform the way we work with architects, artists, and designers, developing new surface languages that bridge heritage, creativity, and architecture.
