Ateliers Zelij regularly supports artists, architects, and designers in translating creative concepts into durable architectural surfaces. Our role extends beyond sourcing and manufacturing to include technical development, material adaptation, and production supervision, ensuring that artistic intent can be faithfully realized at an architectural scale.
In 2016, we sourced and coordinated a specialized workshop capable of producing ceramic artworks for the collaboration between Spanish artist
Sergio Mora and designer Philippe Starck for Bazaar Mar, the Miami restaurant of chef José Andrés. The challenge was to reproduce Sergio Mora’s richly detailed illustrations on a ceramic surface while meeting the technical requirements of a commercial environment.
The project required the development of custom tiles suitable for installation on floors, walls, and ceilings, combining artistic precision with the durability, slip resistance, and performance standards expected in hospitality projects.
Following the success of the Miami installation, Ateliers Zelij supervised a second production one year later for a new restaurant on Park Avenue, New York, ensuring continuity between the artist’s original vision and the technical realities of large-scale architectural application.
More recently, Ateliers Zelij oversaw the production of a bespoke ceramic mural for the kitchen of the legendary Hôtel de la Plage in Cap Ferret, in collaboration with interior architect Delphine Carrère. Developed specifically for this iconic setting, the project required the same attention to detail and material expertise, translating a unique artistic vision into a durable surface capable of becoming an integral part of the architecture.
These projects exemplify our ability to bridge the worlds of art, craftsmanship, and architecture, transforming complex creative works into surfaces capable of inhabiting and defining a space.
