Paz

Scarpa mosaic broken marble collection by Ateliers Zelij
Born from a bespoke project for Aesop, the Paz collection marks a singular chapter in the history of Ateliers Zelij. Inspired by the iconic terrazzo floor designed by Carlo Scarpa for the Olivetti Showroom in Venice, the project challenged us to reinterpret a celebrated architectural motif through our own material language. As this composition could not be faithfully translated into zellige, we explored a new territory: stone. Developed in partnership with a specialized workshop in Portugal, Paz employs fragments of marble and terrazzo assembled on mesh with generous joints, echoing both the spirit of traditional mosaic and the graphic precision of the original design. What began as a custom development soon evolved into a collection in its own right. Drawing from some of our most emblematic zellige patterns, Paz transposes the Ateliers Zelij aesthetic into stone while preserving the principles that define our work: craftsmanship, material expression, and architectural relevance. Produced using locally sourced stones as well as reclaimed stone and terrazzo offcuts, the collection reflects our commitment to giving new value to existing materials through thoughtful design.
