Delphine & Samir

Ateliers Zelij was founded in Toulouse in the late 1990s by Delphine Laporte and Samir Mazer, while they were studying Industrial Design.

Their story began with a shared interest in Moroccan art and craftsmanship. They first opened a shop in Toulouse while developing their first zellige collection.

From the beginning, their ambition was to preserve the traditional art of zellige while bringing it into a contemporary context. One of their first innovations was the development of rigid 30 × 30 cm pre-assembled panels, making handmade zellige easier to install.

This was followed by the creation of the Creative Collection, designed by Samir Mazer exclusively for Ateliers Zelij. Today, the collection includes 17 original designs, protected by copyright.

The studio quickly gained international recognition, appearing in leading design publications and presenting its work at events including Tent London, Milan Design Week, Paris Design Week and Dubai Design Week.

Over the years, Ateliers Zelij expanded beyond zellige to explore other materials, including cement tiles, stone and terrazzo mosaics.

Today, Ateliers Zelij is a premium surface design studio with strong expertise in zellige, working with architects and interior designers around the world to create distinctive surfaces for contemporary spaces.

From traditional Moroccan craftsmanship to contemporary surface design, the studio continues to explore new possibilities for the materials at the heart of its work.
